The bassist of Soda Stereo tells Gibson TV en Español how John Entwistle and his Gibson Thunderbird bass defined him as a bassist in the mid-80s
In the latest video from Gibson TV en Español, Zeta Bosio—the bassist and founding member of the legendary Argentine band Soda Stereo—shares that he spent many years searching for a Gibson Thunderbird™ bass after hearing one in action during an Iggy Pop show. He also discusses how an educational videotape featuring John Entwistle of The Who forever changed his playing style and helped him define his character as a bassist.
“Many people tell me that when I play, the bass sounds impressively big,” Bosio states. “Well, all that development came hand-in-hand with John Entwistle and the Thunderbird, which was his original bass.”
Soda Stereo is probably the most influential band in the history of rock in Spanish. The band split up in 1997 after a 15-year career, but 10 years later, they reunited for a celebration tour titled “Me Verás Volver,” which, at that time, broke all attendance records for a tour in Latin America. It was during this moment that Zeta Bosio first showcased his Gibson Thunderbird to the audience.
In 2023, Zeta Bosio and Charly Alberti—the two surviving members of Soda Stereo—were invited by Coldplay to perform several Soda Stereo songs with them during two of the 10 concerts held at the Estadio Monumental de River Plate in Buenos Aires. It was during those two shows that Zeta Bosio presented to the audience a Non-Reverse Thunderbird bass in Faded Pelham Blue finish for the first time.
