Gibson Films releases Slash: The Making of “4”

Enjoy live rehearsals and an inside look at Slash and his co-conspirators in this brand-new rock documentary

This fabulous documentary—the debut release from Gibson Films—delves into the creation of the album “4” by Slash Feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. With a bevy of Les Pauls, SGs, Flying Vs in tow, it’s not only informative but toneful, too.

As a vibrant rock album fueled by memorable guitar hooks and compelling melodies, “4” is full of big choruses and even bigger riffs—recorded at the iconic RCA Studio A. The first release on Gibson Records, the work is Slash’s fifth solo album and fourth with this band, featuring Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums), Todd Kerns (bass & vocals), and Frank Sidoris (guitar & vocals).

Witness a unique perspective on Slash’s artistic journey as a guitarist. The documentary showcases the dynamic connection between Slash Feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, highlighting their experiences over their decade-long collaboration. You’ll gain insights into their time in the studio with award-winning Nashville producer Dave Cobb and get an up-close look at the band’s creative process in crafting the album “4,” released on Gibson Records.

Slash notes, “There’s not really one particular favorite part of making a record. I mean, there’s highlights through the whole thing, from coming up with an idea that sounds cool that you’re inspired by. We had a pretty good idea about how we wanted to do it …”

Live performances of tracks from the album bring you rock ’n’ roll in all its raucous glory, including “Whatever Gets You By,” “Actions Speak Louder Than Words,” “The River is Rising,” and others.

Myles Kennedy shares his personal thoughts on working with the legendary Slash, and the documentary explores the band’s views on how “4” enhances their musical legacy. Slash’s evolving guitar skills and songwriting come to the fore, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the effective partnership between Slash and Myles Kennedy.

The film also focuses on the growth of the band members Todd Kerns, Brent Fitz, and Frank Sidoris and includes additional live performances such as “Fill My World” and “April Fool.” This documentary is a valuable insight into the career of one of rock’s iconic figures, Slash, for his fans.

The new Gibson Films initiative

“For the last three years, Todd Harapiak and I have dreamt about expanding our storytelling into full-length feature films,” says Mark Agnesi, Director of Brand Experience at Gibson Brands.

“We want to give music fans around the world a glimpse behind the curtain on the artists and the stories that only Gibson can tell. There are so many stories we plan to tell with Gibson Films, and we are proud to have Slash as the first. The album “4” was our first release on Gibson Records, so it is only fitting that “The Making of 4” is our first release on Gibson Films … and this is only just the beginning.”

“The inspiration behind Gibson Films stems from a passion for storytelling,” adds Todd Harapiak, Gibson Media Director.

“We’ve always been inspired by the idea of merging musicians and filmmakers, coming together to celebrate stories that will span a diverse array of genres. To be able to collaborate with Slash and The Conspirators for our first film release was both an extraordinary and memorable experience. I’m thrilled about this expansion of Gibson Media and look forward to transporting audiences into the realm of sound and vision.”

The launch of Gibson Films—which features special project long-form films that go deep inside the stories of Gibson’s legendary players—marks the next major step in the evolution of the Gibson Brands media division, which creates music experiences for fans worldwide through immersive storytelling.
