Rodrigo Crespo: “It becomes an instrument that gives you so many more sounds, so many more colors”

Rodrigo Crespo shares a demo and rundown of the Gibson Les Paul Studio on Gibson TV en Español

In the latest video from Gibson TV en Español, listen as Latin GRAMMY®-nominated Rodrigo Crespo shares his thoughts about the reimagined Gibson Les Paul™ Studio and why this new version completely changed his opinion of the Studio model.

“I could never fully connect with those guitars,” he says. “All the Studios I tried in the 90s weighed over nine pounds—they were heavy guitars. Playing rock during long sets was tough; it felt uncomfortable.” Years later, Rodrigo fell in love with a Standard Faded model: “It was super lightweight—only eight pounds.”

However, the new Gibson Les Paul Studio impresses him: “I’m pleasantly surprised the Studio is back, and it’s incredibly lightweight. From this angle, I couldn’t even tell it’s not a Standard. The binding on the neck, the trapezoid-shaped inlays—it’s amazing. Even the top edge has this elegant faux binding. I think it looks amazing.”

The new Les Paul Studio may be rooted in tradition, but it’s built for modern musicians. Available in a range of stunning gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finishes such as EbonyBlueberry BurstWine Red, and Cherry Sunburst, there’s a Les Paul Studio for every taste.

What does Crespo think of the Les Paul Studio electronics?

In the video, you’ll see Rodrigo delve deeper into the tone and functionality, discussing the benefits of this incredibly lightweight and versatile guitar: “The coil tap on the Gibson is super useful—not because it imitates the sound of another guitar, but because it becomes an instrument that gives you so many more sounds, so many more colors.

“I really like mixing one pickup in coil tap mode and the other in humbucker™ mode—those kinds of combinations give you an incredible range of tonal colors.”
