Chinese musician Nana Ouyang joins the Gibson Spotlight Artist program
In line with the brand’s ongoing commitment to elevating new music from emerging musicians around the world, the annual Gibson Artist Spotlight program continues showcasing an evolving roster of musicians. These artists will be featured across Gibson’s global and international channels monthly.
The Artist Spotlight program debuted in January 2024 with Austin Sexton, and now Kapali Long, Angel White, and Nana Ouyang have joined the new 2025 roster. It’s an exciting year featuring artists from many styles and walks of life.
Nana Ouyang is a Chinese musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. She was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music with a full scholarship at age 13. At 15, she became the first Asian artist to perform at NASA’s Breakthrough Prize—often called the “Oscars of science.”
Named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia in 2019, she has also featured in Forbes China’s 2024 100 Most Influential Chinese. Nana has released multiple albums, including her pop trilogy “NANA” and her latest release, the self-composed cello EP, “Love Letter.” At the age of 24, she has already held more than 150 concerts and published original songs.
Citing B.B. King and his ES-355 as a gateway into the Gibson world, Nana notes that his playing and tone inspired her through his “great and signature performances that can’t be copied on stage. That sound from his Gibson guitar is warm and powerful—it’s very tempting.”
The Nana EP comprises three English-language tracks inspired by Shakespeare’s thoughts on love and pain. Ouyang composed all of them with Wyatt Sanders and the release is a deeply authentic and heartfelt creation.
As an actor, Ouyang starred alongside the renowned Jackie Chan in the sci-fi action movie Bleeding Steel. Chan portrays a tough special forces agent battling to safeguard a young woman (played by Ouyang) from a malevolent organization. She’s a diversely talented artist, for sure.
