New from the Gibson Acoustic division in Bozeman, Montana, Gibson Acoustic Specials are designed to be the one guitar you can rely on from the smallest to the biggest stages, and a creative companion built to last for generations.
Handcrafted in the USA and featuring stage-ready L.R. Baggs™ electronics and premium soft cases, the J-45™ Special, the L-00 Special, and the Hummingbird™ Special all sport satin nitrocellulose finishes for a smooth, approachable playing experience and enhanced resonance. Classic neck profiles and mahogany backs and sides offer familiar Gibson tone and feel, while Satin Vintage Sunburst, Satin Vintage Cherry Sunburst, and Wine Red finish options complete the perfect picture.
“Gibson is very proud to now offer the individual magic of these three authentic and famous Gibson acoustics,” says Robi Johns, Sr. Product Development Manager at Gibson Acoustic. “The Gibson Acoustic Specials arrive in a package that’s simply perfect for songwriting and rehearsing, as well as superior for home recording and live performance.”
Among the most recognizable names in the Gibson acoustic lineup, each Acoustic Special model remains true to its celebrated heritage while introducing modern updates. All three guitars feature genuine solid mahogany backs and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top with traditional scalloped X-bracing, and a utile neck affixed by a hot hide glued, compound dovetail joint—a Gibson construction method that helps create impressive resonance and sustain. A rosewood fretboard with a 12″ radius and TUSQ® nut, saddle, and bridge pins complete the package, ensuring lasting performance.
What is the Gibson J-45 Special?
Nicknamed “The Workhorse,” the J-45 is the best-selling Gibson acoustic guitar of all time. This new Special edition’s round-shoulder body and classic Sitka spruce and mahogany construction deliver the warm, wide-ranging tone that has made it a studio and stage favorite.
The concert depth body is slightly thinner than on a J-45 Standard, making the guitar more comfortable to hold and giving the J-45 Special a tighter bass response that sits perfectly in the mix. Offered in Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red, it also features Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze pickup system, all housed in a premium soft shell case.
What is the Gibson L-00 Special?
The L-00 has been an enduring favorite since 1932, known for its compact proportions and rich, nuanced tone. The smaller body and narrower waist deliver excellent clarity and a focused bass response, with an expressive character that makes it especially appealing for fingerstyle and blues. It is available in Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red and comes stage-ready with L.R. Baggs active electronics and a premium soft shell case.

What is the Gibson Hummingbird Special?
One of the world’s most recognizable acoustics, the Hummingbird retains its signature square-shoulder design and iconic pickguard artwork. The new “concert depth” body of the Hummingbird Special is slightly shallower than a Hummingbird Standard, delivering a warm, balanced tone with extra player comfort. Available in Satin Vintage Cherry Sunburst and Satin Wine Red, each model includes Grover Rotomatic tuners, pearloid split parallelogram fretboard inlays, and a premium soft shell case.
With these additions, Gibson continues its Bozeman tradition of building handcrafted instruments which capture the brand’s celebrated heritage but offer the performance demanded by today’s players. Thanks to their solid-wood construction, satin nitro finishes, and stage-ready electronics, the Gibson Acoustic Specials are primed for every musical scenario you encounter.
