BMG has unveiled exciting news for blues enthusiasts worldwide: the long-awaited vinyl release of the late John Lee Hooker’s iconic album Boom Boom. Scheduled for July 25, 2025, this marks the first wide distribution of the GRAMMY®-nominated album on vinyl, bringing Hooker’s timeless blues to a new generation of listeners. Hooker, a devoted fan of both the Epiphone Sheraton and Zephyr, remains an influential figure in the blues and a touchstone for rock legends like Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top.
Originally released in 1992, Boom Boom stands as a testament to Hooker’s enduring creativity and influence. Recorded at Russian Hill Recording in San Francisco and The Record Plant in Sausalito, the album captures Hooker’s raw energy and soulful interpretations of his classic tracks. Songs like “Boom Boom” and “Bottle Up and Go” are reimagined with fresh intensity, accompanied by a stellar lineup of blues luminaries, including Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, Albert Collins, and Charlie Musselwhite.
What spurred the release?
The decision to release Boom Boom on vinyl comes as a response to the growing demand for physical media among music collectors and aficionados. Each vinyl edition is meticulously crafted from the original master tapes, ensuring a rich, authentic sound that resonates with Hooker’s distinctive style.
“This project reaffirms John Lee Hooker’s enduring legacy in the blues genre,” said a spokesperson from BMG. “His music continues to inspire and captivate audiences globally, transcending generations with its emotive power and cultural significance.”
