Joaquina joins the Gibson Artist Spotlight Program

In line with the brand’s ongoing commitment to elevating new music from emerging musicians around the world, the annual Gibson Artist Spotlight program will showcase an evolving roster of musicians who will be featured across Gibson’s global and international channels.

The Artist Spotlight program debuted in January 2024 with Austin Sexton and recently added Mona LindgrenAlex Ritchie, Zach Person, and Devon Thompson to the ranks. It also welcomed AyoniThe PicturebooksCamilla PNKDeWolffTigirlily GoldSantaThe Linda LindasThe MysterinesJaime WyattAnnie DiRusso, Gina Chavez, and now Joaquina.

At just 20 years old, Venezuelan-American singer-songwriter Joaquina has emerged as one of Latin pop’s most exciting rising stars. Beginning her musical journey at age eight by writing songs and studying guitar, piano, and vocals, she has built a reputation as a young, empowered artist. Her poetic pop-rock reflections on heartbreak and teenage angst evoke the early works of renowned songwriters.

Joaquina’s return to the roots of Latin pop quickly caught industry attention, including that of GRAMMY®-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello, who selected her for the Abbey Road Institute music program. She has opened for artists like Fonseca, Alejandro Sanz, and Morat. At the 24th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, she became the youngest artist nominated for “Best Singer-Songwriter Album” for her debut EP Los Mejores Años and won “Best New Artist.”

In 2023, she released the critically acclaimed Los Mejores Años (notas de diario), blending live recordings, voice notes, and classic Spanish pop-rock. Continuing her ascent in 2024, Joaquina performed a duet with Andrea Bocelli in London, graced the cover of Cosmopolitan Spain, and released singles like “Quise Quererte” and “El Alquimista” from her upcoming debut album.

We caught up with Joaquina to learn more about what she’s up to.

How would you describe your music?

“I would describe my music as singer-songwriter pop with folk/rock influences.”

What is your favorite piece of gear?

“Right now, my Gibson L-00! I’ve had it for a bit longer than a year, and it’s been my go-to guitar for all my live shows, songwriting sessions, and some recording sessions. I love that it’s a reliable and versatile instrument for me, no matter what I need at the moment.”

What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?

“As of now, I would say that taking home the ‘Best New Artist’ Latin GRAMMY was incredible to experience; it was a dream come true. But I also am extremely thankful for the opportunity I had to perform with artists that I’ve admired since I was young, like Alejandro Sanz and Andrea Bocelli.”

What would be your dream artist or producer collaboration, and why?

“I’d love to work on a collab with Camilo or Rosalía! I admire their artistry and careers deeply, and I think creatively it would be such a fun experience to have!”

What does being part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program mean to you?

“I’m incredibly thankful to be a part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program. Gibson is an iconic brand and partner to have! I’m happy that the Gibson family chose me as their November highlight artist. This means that what my team and I have been working on is slowly but surely having the positive impact that I always wanted as I continue to grow and develop as an artist.”

What’s next on the horizon for you?

“Currently, I’m working on my debut album, a project that has been about two years in the making. It will be released in January 2025, and I’m working hard to make sure that this represents me as I navigated the last couple of years of my life. It’s been exciting to work hard on how it all sounds, looks, and feels.”
