Hiroki Kamemoto joins the Gibson Artist Spotlight program
In line with the brand’s ongoing commitment to elevating new music from emerging musicians around the world, the annual Gibson Artist Spotlight program will showcase an evolving roster of musicians who will be featured across Gibson’s global and international channels.
The Artist Spotlight program debuted in January 2024 with Austin Sexton and recently added Mona Lindgren, Alex Ritchie, Zach Person, and Devon Thompson to the ranks. It also welcomed Ayoni, The Picturebooks, Camilla PNK, DeWolff, Tigirlily Gold, Santa, The Linda Lindas, The Mysterines, Jaime Wyatt, Annie DiRusso, Gina Chavez, Joaquina, and now, Hiroki Kamemoto.
Hiroki Kamemoto is the guitarist, programmer, composer, and arranger for the male-female duo rock unit Glim Spanky.
Glim Spanky features the husky, one-of-a-kind voice of Remi Matsuo and the bluesy, emotionally resonant guitar of Hiroki Kamemoto. The band has its own unique music/sound rooted in the music, fashion, and art of the 60s and 70s.
Formed in 2007, the band made its major debut in 2014 and held a solo live concert at Budokan in 2018. The same year, they performed at Fuji Rock Festival on the Green Stage. They wrote their songs for many TV dramas, movies, and animations. Recently, they have collaborated with various artists in a wide range of genres by providing their songs, including Momoiro Clover Z, Mone Kamishiraishi, DISH//, Maki Nomiya, and virtual singer Kafu.

How would you describe your music?
“I would say our music style is a mix of old-school rock and Japanese pop.”
What is your favorite piece of gear?
“I have many Gibson guitars such as an ES-345, Les Paul™ Custom, etc., but my ES-339 in Blueberry Burst is a very important guitar, especially for making music. Its unique color (Blueberry Burst), comfort, and playability inspire me in many ways.”
What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?
“One of the highlights was our live show at Nippon Budokan in 2018, where I bought a Les Paul Custom to play at that show.”
What would be your dream artist or producer collaboration, and why?
“Gary Clark Jr., as I think he is the best guitarist I admire the most now. I would be so excited if I could have a chance to play with him when he comes to Japan.”
What does being part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program mean to you?
“I believe that Gibson is not just one of the guitar brands/manufacturers but also one that made music history. I am so honored to be a part of that history, even if only a little. It has also given me the confidence to keep playing the guitar with trust in my own musical sense.”
What’s next on the horizon for you?
“This year we are releasing a best [of] album for the 10th anniversary of our major debut, so I would like you to listen to that first. Next year, I will try to make many songs to be able to show you a new Glim Spanky.”
